Field note / Google Workspace
Every other field note on this site assumes Microsoft 365. This one does not.
Most of this catalogue is written against a Microsoft 365 tenant because most partner clients run one. Some do not. This page states plainly which delivery lines still work, which need adjustment, and which are not currently defined for Google Workspace at all.
Fit map
Eight delivery lines, checked against a Google Workspace client.
| Delivery line | Fit on Google Workspace | Why |
|---|---|---|
| User support | Works as-is | Day-to-day user issues are rarely specific to the productivity suite behind them. |
| Endpoint management | Works as-is | Device enrollment and patch cadence run through the device-management platform, not the identity provider. |
| Identity and access (MFA, access policy, SSO) | Works with adjustment | Google's own MFA, context-aware access, and SSO administration replace Entra ID and Conditional Access - the same four qualification questions still apply. |
| Microsoft 365 administration | Does not apply | That lane is specifically Microsoft tenant administration; it has no Google Workspace equivalent in this catalogue today. |
| Teams and SharePoint collaboration governance | Does not apply | Sharing and guest-access sprawl exist in Google Workspace too, but under different controls this catalogue does not yet define. |
| Security-baseline add-on | Not currently scoped | The published baseline is written against Microsoft 365 and endpoint checks; a Workspace-equivalent baseline would need its own qualification. |
| Hosted-voice administration | Works, outside the Teams-Phone-specific pattern | The hosted-VoIP-platform pattern already assumes a platform other than Teams; a Workspace client fits that pattern, not the Teams-specific one. |
| Network, RMM, backup, and vCIO lanes | Works as-is | These lanes concern devices, connectivity, and recovery - not which productivity suite runs on top of them. |
Read the table in both directions
What is genuinely covered, and what is honestly still a gap.
Genuinely provider-agnostic today
- User support
- Endpoint management
- Network and connectivity management
- Backup and disaster recovery
- RMM and monitoring
- vCIO and technology roadmap conversations
Not currently defined for Google Workspace
- A Google Workspace equivalent of Microsoft 365 administration
- A Workspace-specific security-baseline routine
- A Workspace-specific collaboration-governance review
A partner whose client mix leans Google Workspace should say so during qualification rather than assume parity with the Microsoft 365 lanes above - the gap is real, not a formality to talk around.
Mixed-tenant clients
Some clients run both, and that is its own qualification question.
A client acquired through a merger, running a subsidiary on a different suite, or migrating between the two is not a Google Workspace client or a Microsoft 365 client - it is a mixed environment with two sets of answers to the same identity and administration questions. That variance belongs in environment qualification, not in an assumption either direction.

Related decision
Collaboration governance is the clearest Microsoft-only example.
External sharing and guest-access review is written entirely against Teams and SharePoint - read it as the sharpest illustration of what does not carry over.
Bring the actual mix, not an assumption.
Naming which suite - or which mix - a client runs is enough to start an honest fit conversation.
